Swarms are released from Swarm Eggs and serve as defenders of Annelid breeding grounds, though soldier also tends to find them in plenty of other places aboard both starships, ready to ambush him. They have extremely low life span, dying 20 seconds from spawning. Annelid Swarms can be only harmed and killed with ranged Exotic Weapons on Anti-Annelid settings.

Overview[]

Annelid Swarms first begin showing up en masse around the Operations Deck, and will be a common sight for higher Decks aboard the Von Braun as well as the rest of the game.

The Swarms are the male form of the first-stage Annelid life-cycle, and are extremely short lived. Although small, the flying organisms generated by these pods contain a complex DNA structure indicative of a much more advanced creature. Each small creature is bonded to the Swarm via a sub-psionic link. This link is impervious to normal psionic attacks or disturbances.

Annelid Swarm creatures seem to exist only as a living weapon, since their cells have a genetically programmed lifespan of no more than twenty seconds. During these seconds, they are attracted to human tissue. The Eggs from which these emerge often contain organs that might be extracted for useful purposes, unless the Egg has been destroyed in combat.

Strategy[]

Simply run, or, alternately, ignore them, as they won't be able to cause serious harm except in very large numbers.

They are sometimes able to pass through doors, so be wary of that.

It is actually possible to harm/kill them using the Anti-Annelid setting of the Viral Proliferator and Annelid Launcher, but spending the ammo isn't really worth it, as Worm Clusters are already rare enough to begin with, even with Duplication. Note that when using Annelid Launcher, one needs to fire at the floor below them (or any other surface close to them), as the shot won't home in on the Swarm.

Trivia[]

  • The presence of a nearby Swarm can be revealed by the sound of buzzing (similar to that of flies).
