|Disposable Maintenance Tool|
Gunnery sergeants everywhere make it a point of pride that their tool of choice isn't a "loser know-nothing fix-it-all device" - the better the Maintenance skill of the operator, the more effect using the tool will have.
Any person who uses weapons on a regular basis will want to keep a supply of Maintenance tools on hand. As the name suggests, the tool is for single use. Different weapons have different minimum maintenance skill requirements, see below.
Minimum Maintenance Skills
|Talon M2A3 .45 Caliber Pistol||1|
|M-22 Assault Rifle||4|
|Apollo H4 Laser Pistol||1|
|Dual-Circuit EMP Rifle||6|
|TC-11 "Brick" Grenade Launcher||2|
|Stasis Field Generator||3|
- Getting a moderate maintenance skill level (3-4) before starting to use maintenance tools is often preferable. This eliminates high consumption of the tools early in the game
- Early in the game, it can be preferable to just swap weapons in poor condition for ones with better condition. However, once the player starts to Modify the weapons, this tactic becomes obsolete, especially if using the French-Epstein Devices.
- Alternative to Maintenance is to use Anti-Entropic Field skill to prevent weapon degradation
- Some weapons, such as the EMP Rifle have very high Maintenance skill requirement but low Repair skill requirement. Acquiring the low repair skill or using the Auto-Repair Units might seem attractive. However, this tactic subjects the player for weapon breakage during combat.
